Hi Reader,

Welcome to the latest edition of The Hub Newsletter!

In each edition, I share helpful tips and ideas about how you can grow your solo biz by using what's been proven to work for others, just like you.

Okay, so let's dive into today's edition...

Improve your email marketing...

โ€‹

I'm a trier, I try stuff.

โ€‹

Some of it works, some flops. ๐Ÿคท๐Ÿปโ€โ™‚๏ธ

โ€‹

But that's the inherent nature of email marketing - it's one big experiment.

โ€‹

Over the years, I've used a ton of platforms, everything from Mailchimp to Infusionsoft (now called Keap), and enterprise-level ones like Salesforce's Pardot and SugarCRM.

โ€‹

I've also gone down the route of running a fully automated email marketing system; an entirely manual system creating every email just before I sent them, and the model I use today, a hybrid of both options.

โ€‹

I can categorically confirm to you which is the most prolific when it comes to generating income...

โ€‹

Drum roll...๐Ÿฅ

โ€‹

It's none of them.

โ€‹

In all my time, I've been able to generate (more or less), the same level of income no matter which platform or model I use.

โ€‹

The most important aspect of your email marketing system is that you share HELPFUL, RELATABLE, and VALUABLE content.

โ€‹

The way in which your subscribers receive that content matters little to them (if at all) - all they care about is the value they find in what you share with them.

โญ๏ธ Pro Tip

โ€‹

Use this simple PROVEN system for your email marketing:

โ€‹

  1. Give people good reason to join your list: Offer something of true value in exchange for your ideal subscriber's email address (list their top 3 problems and create a solution for them).
  2. Let your subscribers know they're in the right place: Welcome each subscriber and let them know they're appreciated.
  3. Be a value-creator in their inbox: Continue to send them value until they're ready to buy your paid services.
  4. Be a business: Make relevant offers at appropriate times*.

โ€‹

Bonus reminder: Statistically, most of your email subscribers will NEVER buy from you - they're on your list because you sparked their interest at one point, however, due to various reasons (e.g. a lack of belief in you or your services, a lack of money, a lack of time etc.) they'll never make a purchase. Don't take this personally, it's just a fact.

โ€‹

*The most important step that most email marketers overlook.

Introducing a Kit feature...

โ€‹

Do you like using GIFs in your emails? (you know those little animated graphics that kinda runs on repeat - like this one below๐Ÿ‘‡)

Until recently, if you wanted to use one in your Kit email, you'd need to go search for one that works for you and then save it, before uploading it as an 'image' in Kit.

โ€‹

But now, it's built right into the Kit editor using the GIPHY tool available via the Kit Apps store.

โ€‹

You need to either be on the 'Creator' or 'Creator Pro' plan to access it, but it's free to use once installed.

โ€‹

To install it in your account, do this;

โ€‹

Step 1:
Navigate to the menu option 'Automate' > 'Apps'

โ€‹

Look for the GIPHY app and click on the 'Install' button (the image below shows mine, which is already installed)

Once installed, you can access the library of images directly from within the Kit editor by inserting a 'GIPHY' element.

โ€‹

You can do this in one of two ways; either by clicking the little '+' icon and scrolling down until you see the GIPHY app, or if you prefer using the keyboard, just type '/giphy' and the element will automatically appear in the drop-down list.

It's a handy little feature and saves any hassle looking outside of Kit for a GIF, but I'd urge minimal use of GIFs inside any single email, for two reasons;

โ€‹

Firstly, I think too many GIFs can look too busy and distracting, and secondly, they can add a chunk of file size to your email which could potentially negatively impact your email deliverability (it's good practice to stay under 100kb per email).

โ€‹

Using one or two in your emails is fine. ๐Ÿ˜Š

Tech you might find helpful as a solo...

โ€‹

Do you find yourself repeatedly typing the same (or similar) content across your channels?

โ€‹

If so, here's a little app that will save you hours of time and many degrees of pain!

โ€‹

It's called TextExpander.

โ€‹

In essence, it's a way of saving snippets of content that can instantly be inserted in to your assets using a shortcut.

โ€‹

Here's an example of what I mean...

โ€‹

Often, I'll make reference to what's possible using Kit as your email marketing platform - so I list its main features I simply type 'kit-fs' (shorthand for Kit Feature Set) and the paragraph below is created; (everything shown between the dashed lines below)

  • Join the Recommendations network
  • Create automations, meaning your system runs 24/7/365
  • Start and publish a regular newsletter (free or paid)
  • Sell your products and services via their Commerce platform
  • Connect it to your WordPress website and tailor visitor content
  • Automatically create a website blog post from a Kit email

โ€ฆ+ much more.

โ€‹

Prices for TextExpander start at about $4/month. I am not affiliated with this app, I just find it useful in my daily content creation.

๐Ÿ’™ Ask me your questions

โ€‹

Hit the button below and ask me anything - answering questions is my favourite thing to do, so go on, what's on your mind?

โ€‹

โ€‹

P.S. No question is too silly or basic!

Has any of the content in this email been helpful for you?

โ€‹

Let me know - otherwise I have no way of knowing!

โ€‹

Have a great weekend whatever you're up to - for me it's a family day out on Saturday (entire extended family!), and with the local weather predicted to be a sunny 21C (70F) โ˜€๏ธ๐Ÿ˜Ž, it should be a fun day out with lots of catching-up!

โ€‹

Sadly, there's no F1 race this weekend. ๐ŸŽ๏ธ ๐Ÿ๐Ÿ™

โ€‹

Cheers,
John

โ€‹

P.S. If you're into F1, did you notice the sneaky Timothy Chalamet (aka Willy Wonka, Bob Dylan etc.) trick in Miami?

โ€‹

He wore a Racing Bulls engineer's uniform and blended into the background with many press photographers not even noticing he was there! (although a few did, of course! ๐Ÿ‘‡)
